Unlocking Customer Satisfaction: The Human Element
Customer satisfaction is like navigating a maze without a map. At Win More Work, we've been delving deep into customer preferences and stumbled upon a fascinating revelation from Alex Bachelor, former marketing director of Royal Mail. Mr. Bachelor's inquiry into why some regions adored Royal Mail while others loathed it led to a surprising discovery: it's not just about delivery times or package condition. It all comes down to whether customers like their postman or not. It's incredible how personal relationships can trump the quality of the product or service itself.
So, what does this mean for sales strategies? Initially, we might lean towards outgoing, charismatic salespeople. But upon reflection, we've realised that matching the salesperson's personality to that of the customer is crucial. Just as quieter individuals prefer a more reserved approach, louder personalities resonate with a bolder sales style.
Here's the plan:
Know Thy Customer: Analyse your current customer base to discern their personality preferences, but keep in mind potential biases from your sales team.
Learn from Rejection: Evaluate characteristics of non-converting customers to see if personality played a role.
Tailored Sales Team: Craft a team with a mix of personalities aligned with your customer base. For example, if your clientele is predominantly louder, ensure a balance with more louder sales professionals.
But the challenge remains: how do you match salesperson to prospect?
Here's a rule of thumb:
Inbound Calls: Typically louder customers. Prepare for engaging conversations.
Inbound Emails/Forms: Usually quieter customers.
Take time to research and personalise responses. By leveraging social media cues and customer interaction patterns, we can tailor our approach effectively.
This post only scratches the surface, but I hope it sparks insight. Let's navigate the labyrinth of customer satisfaction together, one personalized interaction at a time.
Our Choices Vs Our Options
Choice is often perceived as a freedom we all cherish, yet in reality, it's often constrained by the options presented to us. Consider dining out: vegetarian choices used to be limited, with just a handful of options compared to meat-based dishes filling pages. While menus have evolved with more vegan offerings, the truth remains—we make choices within the boundaries set by what's available.
Another factor shaping our decisions is our innate desire to belong. Ever found yourself sipping wine instead of beer at a dinner because everyone else was? We're wired to seek validation within our social circles, even if it means sacrificing our personal preferences.
So, what's the connection to sales?
As consultants, we have the power to present a range of solutions while gently guiding our clients towards mutually beneficial decisions. Despite knowing what's best for them, convincing clients to see eye-to-eye can be challenging. That's where the art of suggestion comes in. By offering three carefully curated options and subtly nudging towards a preferred choice—"Most clients opt for option 2"—we provide an illusion of choice while gently steering towards the optimal decision. It's a delicate balance of empowerment and influence, acknowledging the facade of choice while leveraging it to our advantage.
We may like to think we're immune to such tactics, but as a sales consultant, I'll admit even I find myself conforming to social norms, sipping wine I didn't truly desire from a limited menu. After all, fitting in sometimes feels safer than going against the grain.

🚀 Rethinking Lead Generation: Prioritising Sales Conversion for Business Success 🌟
In the realm of marketing, it's a common refrain: when business slows down, the instinctive response is to ramp up lead generation efforts. Yet, should we be focusing our attention elsewhere?
Many marketing firms will tell you to acquire more leads when work is scarce, but here's the kicker: perhaps our efforts would be better spent improving sales conversion rates. Why?
Because by honing our conversion rates, we're not just chasing after more leads; we're ensuring that the leads we do have are translating into tangible results. It's about efficiency and effectiveness, ensuring that every lead is maximised to its fullest potential. When we invest in enhancing conversion rates, we're not only saving on unnecessary lead acquisition costs, but we're also streamlining our processes and optimising our resources. It's a strategic shift that can yield significant returns for our businesses.
So, let's pivot our focus from quantity to quality. Instead of chasing after an endless stream of leads, let's invest in refining our sales conversion strategies. It's a smarter, more sustainable approach to lead generation that ultimately drives business success.
